Our studio offers a 3-month academic program for those who wish to study the fundamental techniques of painting and drawing. For centuries, Florentine artists have considered drawing the most important skill to learn. We continue this tradition in this course, beginning with drawing and gradually moving on to painting techniques.
Starting from systems of measurement and proportions, chiaroscuro techniques and the theory of shadows, students progress to drawing more complex subjects such as portrait drawing and the human figure. This is followed by an in-depth study of painting, including color theory, preparation of painting supports, and the preparation of canvases and wooden panels. The main painting mediums used are oil and watercolor.
In our school, students paint using photographic references, as well as still life and plein air painting. The program is established individually for each student and depends on the starting level at which the student enrolls.
Once enrolled, the student will receive the program together with the list of materials that will be used. Pencils, erasers, and drawing paper are provided by the studio, while all other materials are at the student’s expense. The course is open to everyone. Classes are offered in both English and Italian.
